Los Angeles – BLINDED - Seventeen years ago, Donald walked in on his mother in bed with someone other than his father. Whatever he saw that day was so devastating that his psyche refused to see another thing from that moment on. At 35, the hysterically blind Donald visits NYC's best shrink, Bob Schneiderman. Donald's last ditch hope before throwing in life's towel. However the doctor's highly unorthodox remedy includes an affair with Schneiderman's younger, beautiful wife, Bridget. There's only one caveat; Bridget can never find out Donald is blind.
Production Stage Manager: Jonathan Harrison, Casting: Jean Scoccamarro
Cast: Cindy Marinangel, Chris Muto, Marilyn Sanabria and Rico Simonini
Producer John Lant states “When TJ brought me this script, I had to do this play, and soon. I was quite moved by some of the moments and laughed out loud while reading at the local coffee shop. Also getting to work with TJ, and wonderful actors that grace Write Act’s boards over the years Rico, Cindy and Chris was an added bonus. I can’t wait for people to see Joni’s work and have talented newcomer to Write Act, Marilyn Sanabria, join our proud history.”

Fantasm – Odyssey of Dreams
DESCRIPTION
As part of the 2017 Summer Season at the fully refurbished Ford Theatres, Bellydance Evolution presents the Los Angeles debut of Fantasm – Odyssey of Dreams at the outdoor amphitheatre on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 8:30pm. The timeless tales of Scheherazade and the heroes of Arabian folklore come to life following Sinbad’s voyages across imaginative worlds. More than 20 dancers will pull from a variety of Middle Eastern and contemporary folkloric dance styles to bring these mythical characters to life, set to an exciting original score by Paul Dinletir, audiomachine’s co-founder and head composer.

Founded in 2009 by world renowned choreographer Jillina Carlano, Bellydance Evolution (BDE) explores, celebrates and reimagines Middle Eastern dance for the 21st century. By fusing bellydance with other popular and lesser-known dance forms, BDE promises to take audiences on a spectacular journey. With a mission to bring awareness of Middle Eastern dance with its inherent rich diversity and artistic validity, BDE celebrates the dynamic aesthetic of Middle Eastern dance, culture, and creativity, sharing its joy of dance with all communities. BDE takes a revolutionary approach to the art of belly-dance, presenting theatrical dance shows with a storyline, much like a ballet. The show features a cast of 20 international artists from diverse backgrounds in Middle Eastern dance, contemporary, tribal, and fusion dance, each bringing their own unique vision to the production.

Bellydance Evolution has performed to sold-out crowds in over 20 different countries spanning North and South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. The company was featured at the 2012 Mawazine festival in Morocco, where it performed for the Queen of Morocco. With the success of its residency program, Bellydance Evolution has established ensemble company members in the U.S., Europe, Asia and Latin America.

“We are so excited to have this opportunity to return to the Ford with our fourth production, Fantasm – Odyssey of Dreams, in my hometown of Los Angeles. We really wanted to challenge ourselves this time around by adding even more over the top creative staging, a spectacular array of handmade theatrical costumes and the addition of new styles of dance such as the Arab folk dabke and Egyptian shabbi dance,” said Jillina Carlano, Bellydance Evolution founder and artistic director.

Saturday Night Jazz DTLA presents Eliana Estevao
DESCRIPTION

I have had the pleasure of working and recording with Eliana and consider myself lucky to have had this enormous experience. She is a talent the world should have the privilege of getting to know as i have had. If you see her name performing anywhere, do yourselves a favor, Don't Miss Her. You will find wanting more is how you will come away sfter her performance. Enjoy, I know you will. ~~ Dionne Warwick

“Eliana Estevao is excellent. This is a real Brazilian singer!” – Al Jarreau

On May 12th, on our stage at Bar Fedora, legendary songstress

DIONNE WARWICK introduced one of the most internationally successful Brazilian artists of all time, ELIANA ESTEVAO.

This special evening DIONNE joined ELIANA on stage for the hit song they recorded "Heart of Brazil" (Coraçao do Brazil) by Antonio Adolfo...much to the audience's thrill!

After a 20 year absence from the stage, Eliana Estevao is returning for a special performance of songs from both Brazilian and American composers.

Her long-time friend and mentor Dionne Warwick might be in the audience, as she always did when Eliana performed in the old days in Studio City,

to see and hear one of her favorite artists!

A native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Eliana Estevao has been a singer and entertainer since she was just a toddler. As an adult she performed in a Sao Paolo production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” and sang in a variety of Brazilian jazz clubs, where she became a well-known artist and was discovered by Brazilian artist Toquinho. She was chosen to be lead vocalist of the musical review “Oba Oba,” which toured internationally and launched her to world-wide fame.

After she finally relocated to Los Angeles, Eliana had a gig 4 nights a week, for 2 years, at the well known jazz club in Studio City, "La Ve Lee", home to many famous jazz artists.

****************************************************

Eliana Estevao, the Artistic Director of this unique presentation, brings to the stage a variety of songs from Brazilian and American authors with her Brazilian Jazz touch. These include songs from Chalie Chaplin (Smiles), Milton Nascimento, Baden Powell,

Vinicius de Moraes, Sting (Fragil), Joao Bosco, Dori Caymmi, Carmen Miranda (from the Brazilian Music Extravaganza Theater play

Oba Oba) and the Heart of Brazil (Coraçao do Brazil) by Antonio Adolfo, recorded with Dionne Warwick among others.

The show on May 12, was sold out both sets...and absolutely WONDERFUL!

So get your Tickets early: $35 ($45 at the door if available) per show. All ages welcome.

Brazilian Nites Productions, founded by Patricia Leao, has been successfully organizing events since its inception, bringing people of different ages and nationalities together to experience the allure and character of Brazilian culture. The company produces several shows each year, including two annual events: the Brazilian Summer Festival and L.A.’s largest Brazilian Carnaval on the West Coast in February. Saturday Night Jazz DTLA presents LETT-MANCINI-DUTZ
DESCRIPTION

SATURDAY - JULY 22nd

"zany", "mad-capped", "lush", and "cinematic"

LETT-MANCINI-DUTZ

The trio of Lett•Mancini•Dutz defies the conventions commonly associated with Jazz. Words such as "zany", "mad-capped", "lush", and "cinematic" are often used to describe their spontaneous, stream-of-consciousness explorations through the greater pantheon of jazz standards. An avid fan once was quoted, saying, "Its exhilarating to be swept away by the music, all the while wondering if Mancini will fall off the stage whilst playing." Collectively, bassist Bruce Lett, percussionist Brad Dutz, and vibist Nick Mancini represent over a century of live performance experience. This is evident in their ease with one another while on stage, their absolute command over their instruments, and the warmth and genuine appreciation they show to their audiences.

Bobby Thomas Jr at Arts Garage July 29
DESCRIPTION

July 29 at 8: Arts Garage welcomes twice-Grammy-nomiated master percussionist Bobby Thomas, Jr. and The Seventh Realm. Bobby has wowed audiences around the globe for more than three decades. Widely considered one of the most important percussionists in music history, his lightning-fast hands and percussive pyrotechnics prompted the great Joe Zawinul to bestow upon him the title of “The Hand Drummer.”

Upon joining Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter's jazz fusion group Weather Report in the 1970s, he settled in France, and continued to play with Weather Report until 1986. After the group disbanded, Thomas resettled in Miami, and shortly afterward issued a solo CD of his own music, "In the Dreamtime," on a local label. He continued to work with Zawinul until 1994.

Besides Weather Report, Thomas played with The Zawinul Syndicate, Jaco Pastorius' Word of Mouth band, and individual artists including Stan Getz, David Sanborn, Carlos Santana, Eddie Harris, Branford Marsalis, Herbie Mann, Ahmad Jamal and Roberto Perera. World artists he has played with include sitar player Amitava Chatterjee, and African artist Vinx. Thomas maintains an extensive discography and has issued several solo CDs on which he plays an eclectic mix of instruments including conga drums, wind instruments, guitar and the African bow harp.

Sista Jean started as a BG singer for the studios in Los Angeles over twenty-years ago and still has the fire inside to groove with the best in the business.

"I had an opportunity to sing with Mick Jagger on his 2nd solo album. We did the song "Think" by James Brown and Lynn Collins. "That was fantastic. But there is nothing like being in front of hundreds and thousands of fans who appreciate your songs. I like that more than anything in life.

"The Blues Machine" has Bill Pittman on Bass, Jeff Suttles on Drums, Norm Weatherly on Keyboards and Synth Horns, and

Ed Neal on keyboards. Been with the band now for over five years and they know me inside and out.

My influences started with Aretha Franklin, then to Chaka Khan, and foremost to Joan Armatrading. These women showed me the way to music and I never lose sight of them in the goals I want to achieve. I don't compare myself to them or anyone else. I give over 100% when I'm presenting myself to the people, and I live through my songs.

It's more than just singing songs, it's about the living that goes on in the songs themselves."

"If there is one thing in life I could say to people, it would be to never give up on the dreams and goals

you set for yourself in life."

The Glyn Dryhurst Dixieland Jazz Band at Arts Garage August 11
DESCRIPTION
Friday, August 11 at 8: Arts Garage presents the Glyn Dryhurst Dixieland Jazzz Band. "Dixieland" is the name given to the style of jazz performed by early New Orleans jazz musicians. The name is a reference to the "Old South," specifically anything south of the Mason-Dixon line. Dixieland, which was developed in New Orleans, is one of the earliest styles of jazz music. The style combined earlier brass band marches, French Quadrilles, biguine, ragtime, and blues with collective, polyphonic improvisation. While instrumentation and size of bands can be very flexible, the "standard" band consists of a "front line" of trumpet (or cornet), trombone, and clarinet, with a "rhythm section" of at least two of the following instruments: guitar or banjo, string bass or tuba, piano, and drums. Not often heard today, a handful of dedicated bands keep the music alive. The Glyn Dryhurst Dixieland Band is South Florida’s leading band dedicated to this genre of music.

Al Kanovsky wrote a review of a performance of the band at the Riverwalk Jazz Brunch for “Jazz and Blues Florida.” He writes: “Have you ever sat through three sets of music and knew every title, melody and even the lyrics? It happened to me yesterday at the Riverwalk JAZZ Brunch in Ft. Lauderdale. The band was the Glyn Dryhurst Quintet….The band opened with "Perdido". Glyn playing muted trumpet. Each took a turn and then traded 4's. They took it out with the associated bop riff. There may be only a few of you who remember tunes like "JaDa". My older sisters danced to that way, way back in the day….By the way, Danny Burger is no youngster, but he was the kid of this group. "Bye Bye Blackbird" has dancers up. Some young, some not so, and a couple of them of my generation.... The crowd insists on "ONE MORE!" What else but Duke and "Satin Doll". Thanks to all the musicians who brought back all the wonderful memories of days long gone by.”

Arts Garage is located at 94 NE 2nd Ave in Delray Beach. Tickets are $30-$40-$45 at artsgarage.org or 561-450-6357. BRING YOUR OWN ... WHATEVER! The theater boasts cabaret-style table seating, where patrons can bring their own food and drinks, including alcohol. Music courtesy of KCC Productions.

DESCRIPTION
Grab your friends, family, and dancing shoes! Jazz on the Lawn is BACK!! Come dance or relax and listen to free great music in Gandara Park, every Sunday in August from 5-7 PM - and don't forget to try some of Southern California's tastiest food trucks!

Drawing from her multi-ethnic French/Chinese/American upbringing, her music fuses styles and languages, taking the listener on a twisting journey out of the French chanson tradition, into the land of gypsy jazz, 1940s Chinese swing, international folk, and into the wilderness of her imagination.

Come hear the music the LA Times heralds as "a glittering testament to LA's multiculturalism," bringing "art-song sensibility to delightfully catchy tunes" on August 20th!
