Swimming Pools – The Way to Make Exercise Fun
Almost everybody loves to go swimming but not everybody loves to exercise. So how do you turn exercise time into a fun time? Simply go for a swim! The swimming pool is there (all clean and decontaminated using swimming pool chemicals). All you need to do is get into your gear and go for a swim. In case you don’t have a pool in your backyard, check out your local listing for public ones or recreation areas.
Most people are not aware of it but swimming is actually a form of exercise that involves almost all of the muscles in your body. The good news here is that it is a “low-impact” form of exercise that makes it ideal for those beginning to try their hand at exercising. It is also ideal for older people or those who need to undergo an exercise routine as a form of therapy but are allowed to get into the water or are able to swim. Swimming pool chemicals do not even have a negative effect on exercising individuals. You only need to make sure that the pool has been properly treated with pool chemicals and that the appropriate time has elapsed before doing your routine.
If you are a strong swimmer, you can begin your routine with a few gentle laps. After a few minutes have elapsed, you can then begin picking up the pace so that the muscles in your body will be tapped to work harder. Getting exhausted? Take a rest because exhaustion only means that your pace is just right.
Are your swimming skills not that strong? Don’t fret because you can still exercise even if you are not a strong swimmer.
At the shallow end of the pool, walk from one side to the other for about 10-15 minutes at a brisk pace.
Go to a deeper part of the pool. Grab onto the ledge with both hands, position yourself on your stomach then start kicking your legs for a good 5 minutes.
Tread water for 20 minutes at a fast pace. If you cannot tread water, another option is to grab onto the ledge with one of your hands, position your body sideways and start kicking as if you were riding on a bike. Plant your feet solidly on the pool floor, twist your body from the waist up side to side. Do this 8 times.
Here are a couple of reminders. Pool exercises are really fun just remember that you do need to do both warm-up and cooling-down stages of exercise. Always allow a day or two of rest before doing another set of swimming pool exercise.
